Overview

This sleek e-bike loves to make a statement with its compact size and bold contemporary design. Its small footprint will allow it to sit in any room for storage and its style will be a nice addition to your space. This is the second e-bike from Jetson that I have owned, the first one being the original Jetson Bolt without pedals. Along with my review, I will provide some comparisons between the two models.

Review

The Jetson Bolt Pro is really in a class of its own due to its unique style and size. It feels like a cross between an e-scooter and e-bike. For that fact I’ll place it in a new category – maybe e-booter or an e-scike? E-booter is more fun to say, plus you could put your e-booter in your boot after getting the boot (Ted Lasso reference).

Design

This ride stands out. Its proportionate curves and battery placement create a sporty yet elegant design. We all enjoy a good compliment every now and then and I don’t go a day of riding it without receiving one. The all black color scheme and killer logo pattern gives me a good excuse to say “I have a murdered out ride!” The fenders blend in nicely and add that nice touch of modded accessories. I have however noticed a decrease in form with some of the electrical components compared to the original Bolt without bike pedals. The power switch/button and power meter have notably diminished in form and functionality. They are now merely chunky after thoughts. The original Bolt had a smooth sliding power switch and a blue Tron-like power meter bar. Both of those were better compared to this Bolt Pro’s power button and four green led lights which leave something to be desired.  Another gripe, the Jetson Bolt Pro comes with a bell for a horn (which I have removed for the photographs). A bell! Did this come from a tricycle? I do miss my red button digital horn from the original model. It was loud and fit the ride nicely. Please fix this Jetson. It is supposed to be a “Pro” model. On a positive note, the front headlight has improved in color and brightness.  Unfortunately, you have to manually turn them on instead of the original Bolt’s preceding mode of auto-on. While we are on the topic of lights, I am confused why the Bolt Pro abandoned the rear brake light and instead included a push button blinking light that snaps on. My previous Bolt had brake lights that lit up while pressing the brake similar to a motorcycle or most motorized vehicles. Maybe this has something to do with the e-bike category? Overall, Jetson nailed the design intent and proportions of this e-bike. Why hide the battery pack when you can organically shape the form and frame it as a centerpiece. Well done and good work!

Ride

The ride is definitely smoother than the original Bolt due to the larger wheel size and the added bicycle mechanics which lower the center of gravity. It also includes springs under the seat which help absorb the impact of bumps from curbs and uneven sidewalks. However, due to its compact size, I am considering adding a shock absorber seatpost to increase the ride comfort. My main reason for labeling the Jetson Pro Bolt an “e-booter” is because of its handling. Its design says drive me like a bicycle, but it is a short wheelbase begs you otherwise. Before taking this black beauty to its full speed, I recommend getting a few miles of comfortability first. A bicycle is more forgiving than a scooter due to its larger wheels and proportions. It does require more attention and experience than a typical bike ride. My recommendation is to start by learning its turning capabilities. Also, slam on those sick dual disc brakes and get used to the instant braking distance.  A top tier breaking perfomance.  Lastly, the pedal assist mode is great for extending your range and getting some exercise in.  I typically use it to get the bike going for the first few feet then switch it to full electric acceleration. With that said, pedaling is easy and the chain ratio configuration is just right for this setup.

Assembly

Setup for this bike was clean and simple. The bike came in a cool packaged slim box and I did not need the instructions. All you have to do is install the bike seat, flip up the handle bars, screw in the pedals and mount the fender. That’s it, you’re ready to ride! It came with a wall plug charger (with Jetson logo for easy identification) and a 75% charge. Nothing to it. I was ready within minutes. Once you are done riding you can easily store it in your trunk for travel if needed by removing the seat and folding the handle bars.  Keep in mind that Jetson recommends storing the e-bike in a relatively climate controlled environment so please ensure your trunk is not baking in the summer sun. The battery pack has a nice notch for easy lifting. I would not try lifting it for long distances since it is 41 pounds due to the batteries and electric motor. Jetson also offers front and rear basket accessories on their website.  There are third-party accessories; such as a child saddle seat found on amazon that my family has truly enjoyed. We use the extra seat along with front foot pegs to quickly make it to our little league games.

Battery Range and Speed

I am completely satisfied with all of these specs. 15 miles on a single charge with up to 30 miles with pedal assist. The battery has plenty of range to cruise around your neighborhood all-day. Nobody should take a foldable e-bike on long treks anyways. The speed is just right even though, at first, I wanted more than 15 mph. I clocked it at a max speed of 21mph downhill and under 10mph uphill.  There are many variables which will affect your speed such as the weather, weight, and road conditions. Achieving a top speed of 15 mph is your most likely scenerio.  This speed keeps it at a safe velocity for kids and adults. E-booters are meant as chill rides not stunt cycles.

Verdict

The Jetson Bolt Pro has just the right style, ride and range for something larger than a scooter, yet smaller than a bicycle. My request to Jetson would be to enhance the electronic components which would greatly improve this product and this product would be perfect in its own little “e-booter” category. If you are considering this ride, I recommend it.
